Hoop Rock and Heavy Hula Hands
|
- Hold the hoop level and spin it towards your dominant hand.
- Rotate your midsection so the motion is applied to the hoop as it rolls around your body.
- To begin moving around, start with baby steps and learn the same way a baby does.
- Circle the same direction as the hoop; you get somewhat of a free ride because your motion adds to the hoop's energy.
- Notice as you become more attuned to the feel of the hoop you begin to control it more automatically through muscle memory.
- Notice also you become more aware of the contact point and you can affect the amount of friction, affecting speed and height.
- For multiples, benefit comes from the force required to get and keep hoops in synch.
- When they go out of synch force them back by exaggerating hip movement.
- Start with the lightest weights available for Heavy Hula Hands (HHH).
- Don't use weights when there are pets, children, or bare feet nearby.
- Avoid dropping the weights on your feet or hitting yourself, especially in the head.
- Get stable with the weights before you start swinging them around.
- Don't get wild; you don't want to apply too much leverage to any joints, or throw the weight across the room.
- Try rotating your arms in smooth and varied arcs as you move around.
- Try curls, presses, etc, while moving around or leaning in different directions.
- JumpRock is more effective in the upper body after fatiguing the muscles with HHH.
